Guest lhh61 Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Hello, I am 67 and haven't drawn any of my IRA. Can I still do a Roth conversion? Can I still do a Roth conversion after age 70-1/2. If so, can it include the required minimum distribution, or only amounts in excess of the required minimum distribution? I have been looking for a substantial set of IRA and Roth rules on the WWW. Please point me to something that goes beyond the basics. Thanks for your help. lhh61
saabraa Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 You can still do Roth conversion. Once you get to the year that age 70 1/2 is attained, only amounts in excess of the required minimum distribution can be converterd. See final regulations on Roths; I googled "T.D. 8816." Conversions are discussed in Q and A format at section 1.408A-4. Q and A 6 answers the required minimum distribution question.
