Archimage Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I have a situation where the trustee name was filled out incorrectly on the SS-4 and the client wants it fixed with the IRS. Anyone know how to proceed with doing this?
Bird Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 We've faxed in corrections/changes and it seems to have worked. I'm not at the office now but I think the list of offices and fax numbers is on the SS-4 directions. If I recall correctly, it says to send the change to the office that issued the SS-4; well, we get our numbers over the internet now but I've sent the changes to the "local" office. Ed Snyder
Jim Chad Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Does anyone still have the letter the IRS sent confirming the EIN. This usually goes to the employer and is the best way to fix this. Failing that, call them. The Phone number for IRS- Entity control is 800-829-4933. If you ask them I think they will tell you to send a letter and they will give you the address. It would help if you had the authority to talk to them ready to fax. (Form 2848 or 8821) You might be able to talk to them in generalities. But I have had trouble doing this.
wsp Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 The online confirmation letter says "If you have input any of the information on your application in error, please wait seven days and contact the EIN Toll Free area at 1-800-829-4933, Monday-Friday, 7:30-5:30pm. If you do not want to call, please make corrections on the letter you receive confirming your EIN and return it to the IRS." I've been able to call and have things changed, but only because I was listed as the 3rd Party designee on the original SS-4.
