Does anyone know if the IRS would give out a block of TINs that can be assigned by the TPA, attorney, etc. for newly established qualified plans, then just reported to IRS on the SS-4 form??? We are having a very hard time with timely responses from IRS using the fax number and waiting for them to fax back the TIN. Anyone know of any special IRS staff or offices to assist with TINs on qualified plans??

Thanks

Mike-

I am not aware that the IRS will award blocks, in fact they probably won't because they'd have no guarantee the entire block would ever be used. I believe they issue the numbers in strict numerical order not skipping numbers (I think).

I fax all my requests to 606 292 5760 and I normally have the number within a few days.

Maybe try that number if it's different than the one you've been using?

Mike- Fax your request to Brenda Harden, Chief, Unpostable/Entity Sec. 770-455-2169- address ATSC-Entity Unit II, Stop 49, Atlanta Service Center, 4800 Buford Highway, Chamblee, GA 30341. We annually request and recieve a block of 20 to 40 mumbers to assign to plans we have installed.

If you have any questions, check our web page and email me- www.lda-fcpa.com

Regarding IRS assignment of TINs, in California, in lieu of faxing the request, we are able to call the IRS at a specified number and they will assign a TIN on the spot. We then fax the completed SS-4 to them (at a different number) for their records.

We are getting a new client in the Chicago area. Does anyone know if the IRS there has a similar procedure. Or, if not, the IRS fax number for assignment on a TIN.

Thanks

The instructions to the SS-4 show the appropriate office and phone number based on location to request a tax id number.

Is the IRS still giving out blocks of Trust ID numbers to TPA's to assign for new plans? If yes, whom should we contact?

How are other TPA's getting TIN's for their new plans? I used to send the forms to the client for them to complete and submit, but I've had miserable luck in getting the TIN's back from some of them (or in getting them to submit the form in the first place). Besides getting POA's from every client, is there another easy way to get a TIN quickly? Am I missing something?

Thanks much.
