Cathy from Chicago Posted December 22, 1999 Posted December 22, 1999 I've heard that one can't but would like this confirmed. The IRS Publication that addresses this issue is not available on their website; the Chicago phone number I was referred to that addresses it does not work correctly - it automatically hangs up (perhaps it is working correctly??). Thanks for anticipated assistance.
Guest danmar Posted January 4, 2000 Posted January 4, 2000 I did last year using TurboTax. The Roth contribution doesn't actually affect current income tax, but I think the program did file an 8606 for good measure. I could see where a recharacterization might not be supported. You'd want to check with the company you plan to file with.
Cathy from Chicago Posted January 5, 2000 Author Posted January 5, 2000 thanks, danmar, for answering this for me! This was my first message posted on this board and how nice to get an answer!
