Guest CitationSquirrel Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Now that the 5558 is no longer required to be signed and dated, how would we go about showing to a client that we timely filed for an extension. We mailed all of our 5558s in this year. So all we really have is internal documentation. There is no date on the 5558 and we receive nothing back from the government. Has anyone else had to deal with this or does anyone have any suggestions?
WDIK Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 We file them in bulk and get a certificate of mailing. ...but then again, What Do I Know?
Guest CitationSquirrel Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Are we correct in our thinking that since the signature is no longer required, the date on the signature line is also no longer required? They would seem to go together.
WDIK Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 http://benefitslink.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=32667 For what it's worth, we still stamp the date on the signature line. ...but then again, What Do I Know?
BG5150 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 5558's still need to be signed if applying for extension to file form 5330. QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
Guest SuzieQNEC Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 In June 2008, we filed an extension on a 2006 form 5500 for an 11/30/07 plan year. We did not sign the form. It has now been rejected for no signature. I thought we didn't have to sign them, even for 2006 forms?
Bird Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 It was effective for returns due after 12/31/05, so you're ok, and I think the 2006 forms already reflected the change. Just write back and explain their rules to them. (Unless there was something else wrong, like maybe you didn't put in the extended due date, and the form letter didn't make that distinction?)
