Stupid question, but when you are putting the 5500 packages together, are you putting the "SB" after the the "R" and before the "SSA" or are you still putting it in the old "B" slot?

From my accounting 101 class I was always told to organize schedules in alpha order, but the schedule checklist section of the 5500 still lists just "Schedule B" and doesn't say "SB" or "MB". However, the directions list the schedules in alpha order with the "SB" after the "R".

I know, stupid question, but is everyone else putting the "SB" after the "R"?

This is how I have always assembled 5500s -- right or wrong.

(1) 5558 first.

(2) Next those schedules that get signed by plan administrator, trustee, etc. So, first Schedule P (may it rest in peace), then 5500, then Schedule SSA.

(3) All schedules other than "B" in order.

(4) Last is schedule "B" or "SB", in particular, because it has attachments and they wil then (where applicable) be adjoining attached auditor report.

This is all very meaningful provided these are looked at by someone who knows what he/she is looking at, which is likely not the case.

I've never received any inquiry regarding the order.

It may be both interesting and amusing to review this thread, even though it is several years old.

Blinky's response reminds me of when I used to coach little league baseball: I used to have the players line up alphabetically by height.

WDIK must have a PhD in archival technology - amazing. I spend some time looking for that thread with no success; I remembered Blinky's first comments as having been hilarious. This question was like deja vu all over again. Most of that old thread is hilarious. Too bad some of our old friends can't seen to find a way to log on anymore....... Some had nice photos.
