Guest kazooben Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I'm dealing with my first client to use HCTC through the TAA. My question is whether a participant can use the ARRA subsidy on dental and vision while enrolled in the HCTC program for health. I can't really think of a reason why not, but I'm having trouble finding ANY information on it. Can anyone offer any guidance? Thanks!
Guest Ira Hayes Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Cannot be done as dental and vision have to be linked to medical in order to receive ARRA subsidy. If citation is needed, it will be forthcoming
Guest Benefit Specialist Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 COBRA Questions and Answers: Administration and Eligibility from the IRS website. AE-9 Q. Does the subsidy apply to medical and dental plans or medical only? A. The subsidy is generally available for COBRA continuation coverage under any group health plan, including medical, dental and vision coverage. However, it does not apply to a flexible spending arrangement (FSA) offered under a cafeteria plan. (03/19/09)
oriecat Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 This is on the DOL info page http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq-cobra-pre...eductionEE.html Moreover, electing the premium reduction disqualifies you for the Health Coverage Tax Credit, which could be more valuable to you than the premium reduction.
