Gary Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I have a one participant plan who is not eligible for 5500SF for 2009 and of course not permitted to f ile 5500 for 2009 so a 5500EZ is required. I don't have a form 5500 software program so my understanding is that I need to contact the IRS and have them deliver paper copies of form 5500ez. If I am not mistaken I would have to either hand write or type to complete 5500ez, i.e. I can't complete it on the computer. Is that correct? Is it really that primitive? If so it feels like 1968. Perhaps I should light up a cigarrette when completing the return too ;-). Thanks.
K2retire Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 As I understand it the 2009 5500 EZ form is not yet available on paper either.
Belgarath Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 It is available now on the IRS website. P.S. - here's a link. http://www.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/forms...Descending=true
Gary Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 So if I'm not mistaken this return can in fact be completed on the computer and then printed and delivered to IRS? thanks
goldtpa Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Just had a client call and state that the 2009 Form 5500 EZ, that was filed using the 2008 Form, was rejected by IRS. IRS sent a letter back that stated that client must use the EFAST2 to file. Anyone else come across this??
goldtpa Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 just got off the phone with the IRS. They say that many people who filed EZ's are getting this letter and its an error. They are working on correcting this. IRS rep I spoke with said that that there may be penalty notices that will go out after July 31. They say that if you get a 1393 notice for an EZ you need to keep the first page which shows the stamp as your proof that it was filed. You need to resubmit with letter asking them to accept return as the 5500-ez instructions say to file with IRS and not DOL. IRS rep gave me the impression that if clients dont resubmit, they could get fined.
GMK Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 IRS..error. ... if clients dont resubmit, they could get fined. Like a 3-foot high flame, this really burns ... well, never mind.
Belgarath Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 By all means, they should be fined for correctly doing what the IRS said they had to in the first place. I think there is only one profession where you can screw up more than the IRS without geting fired, and that's being a weather forecaster. Or perhaps an economist. Honestly, if this were the first time something like this had happened, I'd be a little more tolerant, but it is becoming almost routine. Grrrrrrr!
