ok - I thought there were threads about this but I searched and came up empty...

I submitted a client's return through IFile. The client obtained the necessary credentials and went in and signed the filing for me. I went back in and submitted the filing.

When I submitted; the filing showed as "Filing_Stopped". The form IS showing up in a general 5500 search on the EBSA home page.

Attached is the filing error I received. The client has assured me that he registered as a "Filing Signer" and that he completed the registration process through getting his User ID and pin.

Any thoughts?

Did the client sign as both Plan Administrator and Plan Sponsor or just Plan Sponsor. My understanding is that if they only sign in one place, it should be as Plan Administrator.

TPAMan is correct and that is likely what happened.

We have them sign in the Plan Administrator spot only.

Is it possible that he signed in both and it didn't like that because there was no preprinted name in the Plan Sponsor area?

What we have clients do and what they do are not always the same thing. The error specifically says the Plan Administrator user id and PIN are missing.

You are right - I finally had the client tell me that he signed as Plan Sponsor not Administrator. Sorry for the assumption on my part.

I have "amended" and had him resign and resubmit....filing status is now Filing_Received.

Thank you for your instruction!

I have "amended" and had him resign and resubmit.

Under the circumstances where the initial filing fails because of a missing or invalid USERID and PIN, should the resubmission be marked as an amended return in Part I or is it okay to resubmit as if it were the initial filing?

...but then again, What Do I Know?

WDIK - I guess I didn't use the right verbage....when I clicked on the client name (on the screen that showed Filing _Stopped) I then clicked on "edit" and the system put the return back in my "waiting for signature" listing.

Perhaps I should have marked "amended"(??) but since the original filing was not "received", I assumed that it wasn't necessary.

Your logic makes sense for me, but I was confused by the wording in my software instructions for this situation.

"In the following example, there is a typo in the Signer ID or PIN and they do not match EFAST2 records. The filing will have to be amended and signed. The AckID of the original filing will have to be included in the amended filing. A PROCESSING_STOPPED EFAST status is very serious and should be corrected as soon as possible."

I don't know the answer, but I was hoping those with more EFAST2 experience would be able to clarify.

...but then again, What Do I Know?

EFAST2 could read this annual return/report but could not fully check the filing for errors because crucial information was not provided by the filer. This annual return/report must be corrected and resubmitted in its entirety as an amended filing.

My guess is that your software marked it as amended for you automatically.
