DMcGovern Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 So I was reading the article in the BenefitsLink newsletter from the DOL (EBSA) regarding a new website that they are co-sponsoring with AICPA. I clicked on the link to the website www.choosingaretirementsolution.org and starting checking it out. The section that you can use to help you determine what kind of retirement plan to choose seems to have a glitch in it (I hope). I decided to choose options for a small employer (under 100 employees). You can enter any type of entity, and I also chose that I wanted employer contributions only with a vesting schedule. No matter what the entity, it comes up with no retirement plan options available. I sure hope not! Defined benefit plans do not seem to be provided as an option here. I was surprised that the EBSA would co-sponsor something like this. Anyone else check it out?
SMB Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Yeah - I checked it out myself. Seems to be sorely lacking in plan provision "options". Just goes ta show ya that there's no substitute for a knowledgeable consultant...
masteff Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Here's your answer (had to randomly click to finally find it)... http://www.choosingaretirementsolution.org...lans_Types.aspx Note: Defined Benefit Plans are not included in the Choose a Plan Section. The gathering of information necessary to help you determine the appropriateness of this plan for your business falls outside the scope of this site. We encourage you, however, to discuss with your accountant or other financial advisor whether a defined benefit plan would be a good option for your employees. To learn more about defined benefit plans please visit http://www.dol.gov/elaws/pwbaplan.htm. Edit: as a CPA, I'm sorely disappointed by them. And the Resources page completely sucks.
