Gary Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 if a plan sponsor changes valuation date from 12/31 to 1/1 for the 2010 plan year my understanding is that such change would be acceptable as provided in the 430 regulations. And as a result when completing line 8 of Form 5500 Schedule R it would be checked as "N/A". Does my interpretation seem on point? thanks
FAPInJax Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Yes. However you establish your rules for 2010 - they become the baseline. Changes in future years must receive approval / disclosure - whatever the rules are.
Calavera Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Is it free pass for the 2010 year only? Do I need to get an approval to change it from 12/31/2011 to 1/1/2011?
JAY21 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Yes, I think 2011 changes in Val date will require approval unless we get some future IRS allowance to change for 2011. For now, the regs only give the automatic change through the 2010 plan year.
