emmetttrudy Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Does anyone know if a good process for checking to make sure retirees are still alive? Social Security Index has a ebsite you can search on, but for plans with lots of retirees that can be cumbersome. Is there a regulation on this, on what is required to be done by the plan sponsor? Just trying to make sure the plan sponsor does their fiduciary liability by doing a periodic check...
Andy the Actuary Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Is the SS Death Index still active as a "free" venue? Last I checked, nada. You may try http://pbinfo.com/. I know they've been around since the 80s but you should not take this suggestion as a recommendation as I've never used them. Many institutional trust departments contract for this and offer it as a client service once or twice per year. The free SS Death Index that I used to use regularly seems to have shut down.
mattmc82 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 i assume most people used the same one as I that has recently become "not free" this one is, but you have to register your email for it http://www.genealogybank.com/gbnk/ssdi/
