karen1027 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Has this gone into effect? If so, why are some insurance companies asking if a child is a full-time student?
leevena Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I believe (99% sure) that grandfathered plans can deny coverage to these types of dependents if they have access to coverage at their employer. Assuming that the grandfathered plan has a "students covered to age xx" in their plan, this would explain why the administrator is asking.
masteff Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 They probably view it as safer to collect the data than not. If that provision of the law gets repealed then they'd have to go to great expense to collect that data.
