Benefits 101 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 A former employee owes premiums for December & January. He sent in premiums for one month, but still owes for January. He wants to be retroactively enrolled for December only. Can we do this? I thought we had to wait until all COBRA premiums in arrears were paid to re-enroll him.
Guest sniffles Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 As long as he sent in his Cobra Election within the designated time period, his payment would cover back to the date his coverage terminated. So if his employment ended on Dec. 10 and his insurance ended that same day, when he elects Cobra coverage his Cobra insurance begins on Dec. 11th and his payment would start from December 11th forward and he should be re-enrolled. Now if his payment only covered thru December 31st, he will still be enrolled because he has so many days before his payment for January coverage is due....I'm thinking either 45 or 60 days-not sure about exact number. Anyway, he would be retroactively enrolled and covered.
