jkharvey Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Since IRS hasn't released the 5500EZ yet (I didn't find it when I looked a few minutes ago), is it ok to file a final 2012 5500EZ using the 2011 form?
ETA Consulting LLC Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I did. I merely keyed January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012 in the date boxes since it wasn't for the 2011 calendar year. You shouldn't have a problem as long as you use the correct dates. Good Luck! CPC, QPA, QKA, TGPC, ERPA
BG5150 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Do you cross out 2011 and put 2012 (up in the corner) like we did in the old days? (Or, at least, like I did in the old days) QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.

(Or, at least, like I did in the old days) Not necessary. The form already reads 2011 Calendar Year "OR". When you key in dates that contradict that 2011 calendar year, then that is reflective of the reporting cycle. Good Luck! CPC, QPA, QKA, TGPC, ERPA
FAPInJax Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 The filing system has the following commentary regarding forms (obviously they do not know the forms are not out <G>) 2012 filings can only be submitted on a 2011 Form 5500 or 5500-SF through December 31, 2012. Beginning January 1, 2013, filings for plans with a plan year begin date in 2012 or 2013 must be submitted on a 2012 Form 5500 or 5500-SF.
Tom Poje Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 or you could use the 5500-sf form, and check the box indicating it is a one person plan. (This is also supposed to trigger 'not available for public viewing) you have to get the person to sign the form anyway before submitting, so attaching the signed form and submitting electronically is really no different that mailing the thing in. Can not speak for other software, on FT William the SF form practically becomes an 'EZ' form because you are only permitted to enter a minimal number of fields, everything else is grayed out.

This freaked me out the first time I came across it. Thought something was wrong with the update. QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
