Sheila K Posted October 21, 1998 Posted October 21, 1998 I'm getting lots of stories about "cousins" and "friends" whose employers offer pet insurance as an option through their cafeteria plan. Is this something we can really do, or just an urban legend? Thanks...Sheila K Sheila K 8^)
Lisa Hand Posted October 21, 1998 Posted October 21, 1998 Pets are not "dependents" under any defination in the IRC (even though we often think of them as family), therefore "pet insurance" would not be an eligible expense for a Section 125 Plan
Guest brian Posted January 15, 1999 Posted January 15, 1999 What about parents? Does anyone know any companies that provide health insurance for parents of employees?
Lisa Hand Posted January 15, 1999 Posted January 15, 1999 Regardless of whether it is offered by the employer, the test as to whether it can be pre-taxed under Section 125 is whether they are a dependent as defined by the Internal Revenue Code.
Guest brian Posted January 16, 1999 Posted January 16, 1999 Thanks. Do you know where I can find out which companies offer coverage for parents?
