Guest Robert Brock Posted December 1, 2000 Posted December 1, 2000 I am presently in a frozen defined benefit plan where I will receive an annual benefit of $2258.00, starting at 65 11/1/2014. Can any tell me what the present value of that benefit is or how I go about figuring it out? Thanks
Guest Mr. X Posted December 1, 2000 Posted December 1, 2000 Get the following actuarial equivalent information from the plan document: pre-retirment interest rate, pre-retirment mortality table (if any), post-retirement interest rate and post-retirement mortality table; the normal form of benefit (i.e. single life annuity, joint and 100% survivor annuity, etc.); and provide your spouse's date of birth (if any). Also, if there are any subsidized benefits or if a lump sum benefit is not actuarially equivalent to the normal form of benefit, that information is needed as well. If you post that information, I or someone else will calculate it for you. Bet you didn't think it was that complex, eh?
Guest PAUL DUGAN Posted December 2, 2000 Posted December 2, 2000 Mr. X is right to do a calculation of the present value we need additional information but if you are just looking for a ballpark number I can help. Assuming that the Plan has been amended for GATT (uses 30 year treas. rates and mandated mortality), the normal form is life only ( the most common), and there are no extra features (quite likly with a frozen benefit) the Present Value would be apprx. 10,000.
