Guest Patrick Spell Posted December 29, 2000 Posted December 29, 2000 I am wanting to establish a Roth IRA for 2000 for my wife and I. I am curious what the final date is that I have to have the accounted opened, as well as when it has to be completely funded to count for the year 2000? Do I have until April 15th 2001 to open and fund the account?
Michael Devault Posted December 29, 2000 Posted December 29, 2000 Since April 15 falls on Sunday in 2001, you have an extra day: April 16, 2001 is the deadline for opening and contributing to a Roth IRA for the 2000 tax year.
John G Posted December 29, 2000 Posted December 29, 2000 And... in the next month you can not only fund the 2000 Roth but also double up and add funds for 2001! Early Roth contributions means the shelter is just a little longer. Max 2k each for this year and next, so 2 * 2 * 2 = 8K Good luck.
