Have a small calendar year defined benefit plan that terminated and distributed all assets 2/28/2017. The final 5500 is due 9/30/2017. However, I don't believe the 2017 electronic forms are available yet. What do we do?

Thanks

ETA????? The due date, without extension, is the end of the 7th month after the last distribution, so 9/30/2017 is correct. Just ask your software provider what to do.  They all know.  Or you can file an extension and hope the 2017 forms become available before 12/15/2017.

From the Form 5500 instructions, referring to short plan years:

Quote

If the 2017 Form 5500 is not available before the plan or DFE filing is
due, use the 2016 Form 5500 and enter the 2017 fiscal year
beginning and ending dates on the line provided at the top of
the form.

I stand corrected.  Just something that was emphasized to me (for whatever reason) about 20 years ago.  I guess I've been completing the final returns major early for all these years :-)
