I filed a VCP request on behalf of a client over eight months ago but we have never received even an acknowledgement form from the IRS. Does anyone have a telephone number that they call to speak with a live person to determine the status of the request and possibly, to which agent the request has been assigned?

The VCP case status phone number is 626-927-2011. You will need to leave a voice mail message with as much information as you have. The recording requests your name and phone, and control number. If you don't have the control number (because you never received an acknowledgement), provide the plan name, EIN, plan number and submission date. Since you don't have the control number, you can request that as part of your call-back, but I think they will provide it automatically when they call you back in a few days.

There are other discussions on this site as to turnaround time for reviews. I believe folks were saying that some have waited a year or much longer. I am aware of ones we filed in December and January and they have not yet been assigned. In some cases we received acknowledgements and in some we didn't. In all cases when I call, I'm told to call back in 5-6 weeks for an update.

I called yesterday and I got a voice message today that the acknowledgement letter had not been issued but that I should check back in 8-10 weeks for an update.
