Matthew Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Hello I just had a quick question in reference to 457 Plans or 401(a) plans. Is the plan's fund lineup required to provide a Stable Value Fund or Money Market Account as one of the options?
Patricia Neal Jensen Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 This is an investment question and most of us on here are ERISA people, not Registered Rep's. In my career, I have sold investment portfolios for retirement plans, however, and do not know of any plan which would be "required" to provide a Stable Value or Money Market fund." Do you have a DOL or IRS cite which would support this idea? RatherBeGolfing Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 I think the "requirement" OP is referencing is how many investment folks explain 404c diversification requirement. That one alternative should be for capital preservation, like a MM or SVF.
Luke Bailey Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 The plan may, in various instances (terminating participant, participant undergoing divorce or other personal change, plan termination, global pandemic that gets even worse) need a short-term, highly liquid investment, so probably imprudent not to include as an option, but prudence is based on facts and circumstances. acm_acm and Mainer 2 Luke Bailey Senior Counsel Clark Hill PLC 214-651-4572 (O) | LBailey@clarkhill.com 2600 Dallas Parkway Suite 600 Frisco, TX 75034
