401(k) Investors Plug On, Despite That Sinking Feeling
Excerpt: "Trying to stomach the stock market's dips and peaks can make even the heartiest among ranks queasy as they watch their 401(k) retirement account earnings plummet. The urge to leap out of the market grows stronger with each downslide.... [but for the] most part, people appear to be staying put in their 401(k)s, content to let this ride finish its wild course." (Tulsa World)

Segal Company Finds Multiemployer Plans Well-Funded (PDF)
Excerpt from press release: 'The multiemployer defined benefit pension plans recently surveyed by The Segal Company continue to be very well-funded. The 2000 Survey of the Funded Position of Multiemployer Plans includes 462 multiemployer plans with combined assets of almost $130 billion. The survey found that 79% of the plans surveyed were fully funded for their vested benefits. This percentage is up from 77% in the previous survey in 1999." (The Segal Company)

Special Edition: Compliance Checklist 2001 (PDF)
24 pages; designed for CIGNA customers but very interesting for other employers as well. (CIGNA's Pension Analyst)

Recharacterizing a Roth IRA as a Regular IRA Could Be a Brilliant Deduction
Excerpt: "If you opened a Roth IRA last year, you still have time to change your mind and switch that Roth to a traditional Individual Retirement Account. And now may be a good time to make such a switch if you want-- or need the federal income tax deduction that you can get by contributing to a traditional IRA." (Neil Downing in The Providence Journal)

Global Retirement Trends - Part III
Excerpt: "... it has become clear that the US marketplace has much to offer to markets offshore. It is also clear that storms beyond the horizon will come to present us in the US with issues of profitability and even business survival. First, the UK retirement scene and what we can offer." (401kWire.com)

Finnish Government Wants Finns to Work Longer Before Retiring
Excerpt: "The Finnish ministry of health care and social affairs has come up with a ten-year plan to encourage Finns to start working at an earlier age and keep working for longer. The aim is reportedly to change the pension system to encourage Finns to keep working and the planned changes include abandoning the early retirement pension and the individual unemployment pension."
