5500 Package Mailed on July 3, 2002

From the July 3, 2002 issue of Employee Plans News, published by the Internal Revenue Service. (More information about Employee Plans News is at http://www.irs.gov/ep)

The 2001 Form 5500 Package has been printed and will be mailed Wednesday, July 3, 2002. Despite the delayed printing, neither the Department of Labor nor the Internal Revenue Service are considering blanket extensions for 2001 Form 5500 filings. Filers who need an extension should be prepared to file the Form 5558, Application for Extension of Time to File Certain Employee Plans Returns (by July 31, 2002 for calendar filers), to request the standard 2-1/2 month extension.
