Executive Compensation Legislation Still Pending

The current session of the 108th Congress is quickly drawing to a close, and finishing work on executive compensation legislation this year does not appear to be a priority for House and Senate leaders. But executive compensation still will be on the agenda when Congress returns to work in January, and there appears to be a very good chance it will enact some changes next year-- perhaps as part of an international tax bill.

In order to keep you up to date on what proposals are in play, and to help you focus on how these proposals would affect existing executive compensation plans, Deloitte's Washington National Employee Benefits Tax Group has prepared the following charts. These charts basically summarize the relevant provisions included in the American Jobs Creation Act (H.R. 2896) the House Ways and Means Committee reported in October, and in the National Employee Savings and Trust Equity Guarantee Act the Senate Finance Committee reported in September. The chart for H.R. 2896 also includes a column summarizing recommended changes to existing plans that will be needed if the proposals are enacted.
