  1. I'm using them for 5500's and a few docs. Some nifty stuff... enter a company name and there's an option to upload prior 5500 info (I'm guessing some hook into DOL data). No prior usage of ftwilliam software necessary. Docs are delivered via rtf format. As sent, they're rather ugly, but can be fonted up. Just don't change any words, or punctuation for that matter. At $50 a doc, pretty cheap. If you'll be doing 50 - 60 restatements, there are cheaper options. I've used Datair in a past life, and liked their stuff. Ftwilliam doesn't seem to have all the bells and whistles (maybe good, maybe not). I did note that when the required rollover nonsense passed, they had a new base document with IRS Notification letter within a few weeks. Not an endorsement and I don't work for them.
  2. Have a C Corp on a fiscal year that will elect S Corp status and become calendar year filer. I'd like to match Plan Year to Corporate year (calendar). Plan in place is a 3% SHNEC. Do I lose safe harbor status because of a short plan year? Don't think it will be an issue because of good participation, but you can never take anything for granted in this biz.
  3. Oops, Another cup of coffee and it comes back. Yoo Hoo, Mabel Black Label Carlings Black Label Beer Back to sleep now.
  4. I have no reference material in front of me, so take this with a grain of salt. I thought an FSO had to be a professional org (doctor, lawyer, architect, etc).
  5. Help me out here.. Yoo Hoo, Neighbour, (don't remember this line) Carlings Black Label Beer Other greats... Schlitz, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Shaeffer (sp).
  6. TPA 25 years (still don't know squat). Red Sox, SF Giants, 49ers, Pats, Celtics (ugh), former Bruins fan (hockey sucks on West Coast). Meat eater married to a Vegetarian. East Coast kid who hates fish (any kind).
  7. I'd pull it down quite a bit more ;-}
  8. And I'm gonna call my father to find all the Red Sox shortstops you omitted.
  9. Oh, BTW, wedding anniversary. Sorry for not responding to the post.
  10. In the early 70's, I got a hold of some plastic, rough tracing material (at least that's how I used it). The gentleman appeared in a National Geographic, I believe as a Ukrainian coal miner. He's having a cigarrette break. I traced/copied/ad-libbed from the photo. Something struck me.. can't say what. Maybe the mean streets of East Cambridge. BTW, I collected National Geographics from yard sales, etc., so the photo could be quite a bit older.
  11. Complete mistake, now doubled. I realized after posting, but saw no way to fix it. Anyway, what do 403(b) people have to read? :-}
  12. Lori, Been to Fenway lately? Was there last September with my Dad. He was talking about the new configuration with a few neighboring fans when they asked him his opinion on the new set-up. He says "Well, back in 1946..."
  13. Wife's out of town on business and kids are at school, so I guess you're the only ones to crow to. 20th anniversary today and my mother turned 80! Snide comments always accepted!
  14. How about saying, everyone who quits as of x date will be funded now? Lose a job, get an allocation...
  15. Everyone calls me by my nickname, so if someone calls using my given name, my children respond "I can't talk right now. I'm dressing for his funeral".
  16. I'm sure Tom would agree with me. He's a DAY older.
  17. I estabished an LLC and plan to file my taxes via a Schedule C. I don't see myself as two entities; ie self employed and LLC. Surely, my tax filing status and my legal status are distinct. I'm doing business as an LLC for legal reasons, but am a sole-proprietor for tax status. Only one person in this seat!
  18. Get a copy of the docs, do it yourself and charge less.
  19. I have a plan that's using high three-year average compensation as an Employee to base benefits. Proposed Regs say to use comp as a Participant. Called my actuary with concerns about how this may change funding, etc. "Proposed Regulations? Never read them! Any other questions?" As long as he signs a B....
  20. The Code and Regs, especially the Sections on controlled and affiliated service groups.
  21. What kind of executive works less than 24 hours/day? Even when sleeping, I'm often doing paperwork, calculations, planning. Executives paid by the hour? You're joking, right?
  22. Assuming a calendar year plan, you have 2004 and 2005 filing requirements.
  23. Thought that the purpose of the Notice was to inform interested parties of a pending filing. To my mind, no filing, no notice.
  24. I agree with Bird, but only because it's the only way I know. I just started a new firm after 24 years at my old firm. Most prior clients came with me. Had to send lots of letters requesting duplicates be sent to the new address. I'm getting them now, but had to hire my 14 year old to open, sort and file them. Two hours later, had the statements and a grocery bag of filler and envelopes. What a waste! Tried to get electronic access, but am not in the billion dollar range where you can get some attention.
  25. What were the tax ramifications? I would think the "Key" would have FED/State and possible Excise Tax issues.
