Deadline for safe harbor contributions apparently is not included, though; see: http://www.relius.net/News/TechnicalUpdateDetails.aspx?T=P&1=1&ID=1111

How about #24 under "Employee Benefit Issues" in Rev. Proc. 2007-56: A contribution to a qualified retirement plan (other than an individual retirement account) shall be deemed to have been made by the taxpayer on the last day of the preceding taxable year if the contribution is made on account of such taxable year and is made not later than the time prescribed for filing the return for such taxable year.

Hurricane Irma Tax Relief
Lois Baker replied to RatherBeGolfing's topic in Retirement Plans in General
Also IRS Announcement 2017-13 just released, allows loans and hardship withdrawals for Hurricane Irma victims, similar to relief announced for Hurricane Harvey: https://benefitslink.com/src/irs/a-17-13.pdf -
Indeed. And many of the links aren't working yet. We're working to update the links on our site/newsletters - if we can help with finding anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Happy birthday to Dave Baker -- 29 (again) today!

Related recent thread; might find some useful info here:

Folks, I'm not sure the original article in fact agrees that loans are double-taxed; I think he's perhaps stepping through the (admittedly flawed) reasoning in order to make a point. After walking through the numbers, here's what he says (emphasis added): The bottom line here may be that the potential for confusion is just one more reason plan loans are a bad idea.

Moderator Editing
Lois Baker replied to david rigby's topic in Using the Message Boards (a.k.a. Forums)
Mike (and other moderators) - We've tinkered with some of the (deeply buried) settings in the new software - I believe moderator editing has been fully restored. If you view any message thread, you should now see an "edit" link at the end of each message. If you click on that link for the first message (i.e., the one that started the topic), you should be able to edit the title and the text. If you click on that link for any other message in the thread, you should be able to edit the text of that message.[We can. :-)] Please let me know if that works for you ... if not, we'll keep digging. -
Oops - the drop-down menu error was an oversight - should be fixed now to the "New Activity" page. You can whittle down the items on that page: click on the "Activity" tab, then on "Unread Content" -- then you'll see a line of buttons to select what you'd like to see ("Show Me", "Content types", "Read status", etc.). You can also save choices as an "Activity Stream": click on the "Activity" tab, then on "My Activity Streams" ... then "Create new stream". You can select what you'd like to see, give that set of options a name ... and it will be there under "My Activity Streams" next time you visit. Hope that helps - if it's not clear, please ask - we'll do our best!

Hiding Forum Categories
Lois Baker replied to Chaz's topic in Using the Message Boards (a.k.a. Forums)
The Forum display on the Message Board home page (http://benefitslink.com/boards/) should be "sticky" -- your choices there should remain the same when you return to the page, even if you've logged out, and even if you've closed the browser. Might be a leftover cookie causing the problem -- suggest you try CTRL-F5 to fully refresh the page, then adjust the visibility and see what happens. (You might need to login again to post, but the home page view should remain even if you're not logged in.) If that doesn't work, let me know - we'll figure it out. -
Mobile version not working?
Lois Baker replied to RatherBeGolfing's topic in Using the Message Boards (a.k.a. Forums)
Thanks - we'll get the mobile version fixed; not sure what's gone wrong there. Appreciate the heads up! -
Thanks, Tom -- Please go to the window that's treating you as not being logged in, and hit the Control-F5 combination in order to refresh the window. The resulting window should show you as being logged in (i.e. "Tom Poje" appearing towards the top right part of the window, rather than "Sign In"). Regarding the viewing of new posts, I'm not sure what would have been causing the issue last week (when we were still running the previous version of the message boards software), but please let me know if you're able to view new posts when you've (1) logged in, and (2) clicked on "Activity" (a new tab that's in the menu towards the top of the page). I think you'll be pleased at all the ways you can view new and other recent activity (including posts) on the message boards!

Upgrade coming 12/31/2016
Lois Baker replied to Dave Baker's topic in Using the Message Boards (a.k.a. Forums)
Might be a good time to check your profile, though, to be sure the email address listed there is current. That allows you to retrieve your password automatically should it ever be necessary. And it allows you to be notified of new topics ... and receive any possible-and-rare administrative announcements via email. -

Thanks so much for the thought. We're at the western edge of NC, in the mountains -- we;re actually in dire need of rain. Thoughts are with all of those on the east coast - worst possible scenario for them. From what we are seeing on the TV, Matthew made some pretty bad messes in NC. Hope you and Dave are A-OK.

Judging by auto-responses to today's newsletters, lots and lots of business closures in FL/SC. Not looking good for the FL east coast. Dave is helping family in Sebastian/Vero Beach -- and I am remembering why we headed for the hills moved to the NC mountains some years back. Stay safe, everyone.

Earlier this week, EBSA rolled out a "new and improved" website. Just came across this page: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ebsa/employers-and-advisers/plan-administration-and-compliance/reporting-and-filing/form-5500 -- and remembered this question. Forms, schedules and instructions going back to 1995 -- not quite all the way to 1990, but maybe an easier interface than the IRS for those years.

ha ha ha. plan now. the 2016 forms aren't due until 11/15/2017
Lois Baker replied to Tom Poje's topic in Form 5500
And then there's this: The new rules contain an unusual exception: the revised tax return deadlines do not apply to C corporations with fiscal years ending on June 30 until taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025 (however, the revised Form 5500 extension deadline does apply effective in 2016 to plans and corporations with June 30 year ends). http://www.relius.net/News/TechnicalUpdates.aspx?T=P&1=1&ID=1072 (via http://benefitslink.com/newsletters/2015/2015_09_16_welfare.html)
