Guest forester Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 3 months ago mom turned 70 and wants to know does she have to start withdrawing money from her Roth IRA? Can she also continue to make monthly contributions?
JAMES PATRICK Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 She is NEVER required to take Minimum required Distributions from HER Roth account. She can continue to contribute to a Roth provided she has earnings from wages, salary, alimony, etc. There is NO age limit for contributions to a Roth.
Guest mkelly Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 I had this question also, can someone tell me where to find a cite that cays you don't have to take MRDS from Roth IRA's ? Thanks
david rigby Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 Minimum Required Distributions is a concept created so that the amounts in IRAs and qualified plans can be taxed. Because amounts distributed from a Roth IRA are not subject to taxation, there is no need for a MRD. I'm a retirement actuary. Nothing about my comments is intended or should be construed as investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Occasionally, but not all the time, it might be reasonable to interpret my comments as actuarial or consulting advice.
Michael Devault Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 Mkelly: You can find this written on page 58 of the current version of Publication 590. It specifically says, "You are not required to take distributions from your Roth IRA at any age." Hope this helps!
david rigby Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 Good spot! Here is the link to that publication. http://ftp.fedworld.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p590.pdf I'm a retirement actuary.
