Guest docbon Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Hi all, I need some experts advice regarding a questionaire I received from insurance company.Insurance company asking for previous coverage information. But, My old insurance was cancelled by Old insurance company due to preexisting condition. Now, I am on prenatal care, which is not preexisting condition under present group insurance. 1.Does previous insurance should give HIPPA letter as I was under their coverage? 2.How should I respond to this questionaire from the Present insurance company? Thanks
mroberts Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Certificates of Credible Coverage get generated once you are terminated off a medical plan. If you get coverage within 63 days, you should be fine and not subject to pre-existing conditions. As far as how to answer a questionnaire, truthfully of course. It's not like the insurance company isn't going to figure out you were pregnant before filling out the questionnaire when you have the baby less than 9 months later.
Jbentz Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 Yes, answer the questionaire truthfully and any insurance coverage that you have had in the past 12 months needs to be asked to send you a copy of your Certificate of Coverage. Do not worry about the pregnancy pre-ex, under the HIPAA portability laws they cannot inpose a pre-ex on pregnancy.
