Guest randycsa Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 I know this is very elementary for some, but I am in need of some resources to educate myself on 401k plans. I would appreciate any information that could be provided.
austin3515 Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 I read a really good book once on Amazon called 401(k) Today. It was pretty basic but seemed to touch on all of the important facts. I also liked the CEBS program from the International Foundation of Employee Benefts. Course III is on DC Plans, and general qualification items. That was a bit meatier. Alternatively, you could always just read the 401(k) Answer Book. That book is quoted on this site extremely often. Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA

I guess it depends on what aspect of 401k plans you need information on, but certainly there is much available on the Internet. Try some of the following: Benefitslink.com and 401khelpcenter.com have lots of good information. The Profit Sharing Council of America has information and resources for plan sponsors. Then there are organizations like American Society of Pension Actuaries, International Foundation for Retirement Education, Society for Human Resource Management, Employee Benefit Research Institute, and many others.
Guest yukon Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 "The Complete Idiot's Guide To 401(k) Plans". No joke. Any bookstore...under $20.
2muchstress Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 I think I might buy that book and send it to all my clients for x-mas.
Guest rmeigs Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 I just finished "Smart Choices: Selecting and Administering a Safe 401(k) Plan," by Matthew Gnabasik. It just won a best business book of the year award and is pretty good. Targeted at the plan sponsor, not the retirement professional, so it is not overly technical -- easy to understand and read.
