Guest tgraham Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Sole Proprietor uses SSN for Schedule C. Do we need a new EIN for the 401(k) Plan? Thank you.
WDIK Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Instructions for Form 5500-EZ state (in bold), "Do not enter your Social Security Number." ...but then again, What Do I Know?
wmyer Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 In other words, YES. A sole-proprietor does need an EIN for his or her 401(k) plan. W Myer
Guest tgraham Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Thanks. We have received an EIN for the plan. Sorry to be so dense, but it appears that the SSN still goes on Line 2b, Form 5500. Is that correct?
Earl Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 are you talking about the line that says, "do not enter your Social Security number"? CBW
Lame Duck Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 You will have two ID numbers. The number assigned to the plan is the identification number for the trust. You will need to obtain a second EIN for the plan sponsor, itself. This may be done on line at www.irs.gov.
Earl Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/articl...=102765,00.html should take you there. CBW
