austin3515 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 We just got our 2008 EOB, CD version, but all of the text is giberrish. Anyone else run into this? Were you able to fix it? Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
Tom Poje Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Apparently you have never looked at the regs, most of that is gibberish to me...
austin3515 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 Point well taken Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
Belgarath Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Being a Luddite, I prefer the books - plus, I find it dizzying to try to flip back and forth between pages on-screen. However, I asked one of my cohorts, who uses the disk, and here was the reply: "There does seem to be one major problem. The CD uses a new format this year, which is likely designed to make navigation easier. Unfortunately, it eliminates the page numbers. Which makes the references in the index totally meaningless. Well, not totally. It still points me to the right volume. So let's say practically meaningless."
austin3515 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 I wonder how far down the road they were when someone said "Wholly #$*<!!!" I have to say though, if I could just get the text in English it would be a lot easier to navigate!! Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
Belgarath Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 But "gibberish" is an official and well-recognized language. It is used as the EXCLUSIVE means of communication by anyone in government.
austin3515 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 If anyone is interested, it is related to the encryption that they are using. Still working on getting mine to work, but they have been very responsive. Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
david rigby Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 But "gibberish" is an official and well-recognized language. It is used as the EXCLUSIVE means of communication by anyone in government. ... and is contrasted to the language used by actuaries: mumbo-jumbo. I'm a retirement actuary. Nothing about my comments is intended or should be construed as investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Occasionally, but not all the time, it might be reasonable to interpret my comments as actuarial or consulting advice.
Guest SWH Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 There is a secuirty decoding system on the disk. Supposedly, you go to the start here.exe to get the decoding to activate. Still haven't been able to get mine to work. Locks up on me.
austin3515 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 ME TOO!!! That's exactly what happens to me!! Jeeze... Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
Jean Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 It is probably a enable/disable type control in the Internet Options security. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom. Not sure which item you have to pick (I know not helpful), but maybe "Font Download". Report the issue to ASPPA books and / or Cyberisa. They really need to perfect the index so you can link to correct section from it.
Below Ground Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 EOB? Erisa Outline Book? Mine for 2007 never worked. Luckily, I got the hardcopy too. I won't make the mistake of getting the CD again. Having braved the blizzard, I take a moment to contemplate the meaning of life. Should I really be riding in such cold? Why are my goggles covered with a thin layer of ice? Will this effect coverage testing? QPA, QKA
Guest SWH Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 My 07 never worked right either. (I always get the books, too!) But I thought that it was my version of Adobe that I could never get to access correctly.
Guest SWH Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 If anyone is interested, it is related to the encryption that they are using. Still working on getting mine to work, but they have been very responsive. They have been very responsive and very nice. Actually have a guy looking into for me -- but nice to know that the problem is not just ME (this time).
Guest SWH Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 http://mediasupport.omnipress.com/asppa/2008/ Just thought that I would post this to see if the steps here would help anybody. I'll post if I can get a fix that works for me.
austin3515 Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 Didn't work for me... Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
