Guest stevena1 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Can anyone help with a Relius question? I know there is a Relius posting section but no one is ever there. Its an easy one... one of our offices is having lots of client complaints about Relius and how it uses an older version of Java. Apparantly when the clients go in to upload their payroll, if they have a new version of Java, they have issues uploading the payroll, and they are directed to download an older version of Java?? Relius has apparantly repeatedly just said to direct the clients to download the old Java. But the office is having clients ask why they have to do this, why download an old Java, etc...its becoming a headache for the office. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Seems it would not take Relius any time at all to deal with this, but the office has had no luck?
Guest sjphillips Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Unfortunately, not an easy answer. Because Java is a 3rd party product, Relius doesn't have any control over changes made to the Java apps or when they will be released. This affects other apps that use Java as well. We had a situation where we had to test multiple versions in order to find a version that would work for both the Relius Web DVC and the clients payroll app. The payroll app was "pickier" on the version that Relius was. We've been successful in asking our clients to not set Java to automatically update. Also, Relius can assist you in changing the Java download link on the DVC to point to the Java version that works best instead of sending your clients to the Java site to pick the version du jour.
Fredman Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Our clients have similar problems. Most are related to the version issue or can be fixed by clearing the Java cache. I've spent my fair share of time using Java apps on the web and I've never had to clear my temporary Java files until I used Relius DVC. They need to kick Java to the curb and redevelop without a third-party application (java, flash, etc.). Same goes for their Java support application.
Guest Kelly Kolby Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 During our research to program around the Java issue (buttons not displaying and the inability to edit records in Java versions higher than version 1.6.3), we were notified that Java has corrected both issues with their latest beta release, version 1.6.10. Please choose the link below to review Java's problem description for this issue: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6610631. To the extent possible, we do try to program around issues introduced by third party vendors (ie. Java, Internet Explorer etc.). However this is not always possible, depending on the nature of the problem. With regard to the Java issue, we submitted an incident to Sun when Java version 1.6.4 was released and determined that this version was adversely impacting DVC functions. Anticipating a correction from Java, we provided a workaround (use v. 1.6.2 or 1.6.3) that would allow DVC to function. We have provided links on the Relius Support Site (under Web Pending issues) to make it easier to download versions 1.6.2 or 1.6.10. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.Thank you. Fredman Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks Kelly. There's no question that you do a great job responding to issues related to third party vendors. Issues caused by Java have been recurring and breaks your application. We've been able to coach our clients through the fixes, but it is time consuming and puts us in awkward situations like the original post mentions. Please give consideration to other solutions.
