Guest Phineas Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I thought PPA had changed the way in which excess deferrals were handled, so that they would be taxable in the year of distribution (excluding the case where it's distributed after 4/15 of the year following the calendar year in which it was deferred), instead of the year of deferral. However, as I read through the 2009 Form 1099-R instructions, it says that the deferrals are taxed in the year of deferral. This leads to a few questions: do I have the wrong version? did the IRS not update this? where do babies come from?
Guest Phineas Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Ugh. I don't know how I missed this, but for 402(g) excesses, they are still taxed in the year of deferral. But ADP excesses are taxed in the year of distribution. ... still haven't figured out where babies come from, though.
GMK Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 ... still haven't figured out where babies come from, though. Some would credit unusual (and unsubstantiated) activities of avis and anthophila. Others credit ciconiidae. ... hope this helps (to borrow a phrase).
