austin3515 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Sungard's synopsis of the changes "The IRS has just released the 2010 Form 5500-EZ and its corresponding instructions. The new form is essentially identical to the 2009 form, except the 2009 form had only 6 boxes for characteristic codes while the new form has 10 sets. Read our Technical Update." Why on earth was this thing delayed for months if that was the only change??? Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA

Why on earth was this thing delayed for months if that was the only change??? Because some official at the IRS could only sign off on the change after it was approved by the entire chain of the IRS bureaucracy. Has the IRS approved the 8955-SSA? The more complex the IRS makes the procedures for approving changes to the Regs or IRS forms the more time it takes to get the changes approved. I dont know how people can do this this stuff. mjb
Bird Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 That's a 67% increase in the number of boxes on that question. They probably had to get the software people involved, then the efficiency people, and the people who estimate how long it takes to complete the forms, and some others I don't know about. And they probably had meetings on whether it should be 6,7,8,9 or 10 boxes (or 12 or 14!). Not to mention the whole thing about changing "2009" to "2010". Whew! We're lucky to have it so soon.
