Guest Hgreer Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I’m working on populating the census and need to know if the “gross income” should include domestic partner health insurance premium benefits paid or not. It’s included in taxable income for employees receiving domestic partner benefits but didn’t know whether we included - the plan document is not clear? Thanks ahead of time for any guidance!!
ETA Consulting LLC Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 It sounds like a 'taxable' fringe benefit and, therefore, should be included. Just shooting from the hip as I am not privy to all details. Good Luck! CPC, QPA, QKA, TGPC, ERPA

See I agree with that but typically we use what is in Box 5 of the w-2 for the Gross and with the Health Savings Plan that reduces box 5 by the amount deferred. So if it is a taxable fringe benefit why would it reduce that number unless given the fact that it is a tax free benefit (if used for medical reasons)?? Thanks.
ETA Consulting LLC Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I think I see what you are saying. The employee pre-tax contributions to an HSA are excluded from FICA; where FICA is the box 5 amount and those pre-tax amounts are made through a section 125 plan. This would mean that your method of calculating W-2 would have to be box 1 plus deferred amounts. Or, as you suggested, adding those HSA amounts back to box 5. Good Luck! CPC, QPA, QKA, TGPC, ERPA
