austin3515 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 But can someone explain to mean the purpose of this 8822b form? Why the #$@# can't the IRS just reference who signed the 5500 as plan administrator? http://www.winston.com/en/benefits-blast/deadline-looms-to-file-form-8822-b-to-report-a-change-in-your.html [secretly, I don't think I'm the idiot ] Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
Bird Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 asap 18-13 talked about this...perhaps at too much length. My takeaway was "No Penalty for Failure to File." Lou S. 1 Ed Snyder
John Feldt ERPA CPC QPA Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I saw the headline of this post and assumed a member of Congress had originated the post, either that or Mark Twain somehow got in here. masteff 1
Kevin C Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I saw it as part of the IRS effort to locate non-filers. I'm sure they will process the new form with the same efficiency and accuracy they currently use for Form 5558. Or, it could be part of the effort to keep the post office afloat.

Lou S. Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Hilarious John, and very applicable.: "Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself." Individually I suspect a lot of congress critters are reasonably smart. But when they get together I think their collective IQ drops by 30 points.

Am I the only one who sees a flaw in mandating the filing of an obscure tax form such as this as a means of finding people who have not filed a regular normal annual filing?? Kevin C Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 It will drive you crazy if you look for logical reasons for what the IRS does.
masteff Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 My cynical opinion is they want to knows whose home to raid and computers to seize. What's annoying to me is the inconsistency between this (a change in responsible party) and a change in address. http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc157.html Why don't they simply add a "responsible party" line to every relevant return and capture the change annually?
