JKW Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Besides the typical checking of prior addresses, checking with beneficiaries on file, Google and social media searches, what are people using to find participants now that the letter forwarding is discontinued? Has anyone used an online service such as - Intelius?
austin3515 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 We used locateplus (or locatorplus, I forget exactly). It's dirt cheap (25/month for up to a dozen searches, or something like that). PenChecks has a service that I've been meaning to investigate for the clients willing to pay me $50 to do it for them to track down one or two people. Austin Powers, CPA, QPA, ERPA
MoJo Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Organizations I've been involved with have used Berwyn - https://www.berwyngroup.com/ - I'm told it's cheap (depending on the number, and your arrangement - subscription or one shot). In addition, personally I've used www.intellius.com to find a handful of missing participants for a "semi-abandoned" plan. When I used them, they had a "all you can search" in 24 hours (or 48 hours, can't remember) for like $25 bucks.
ESOP Guy Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I have worked with PBI. Good costs and tend to find most people. The thing I like the most about them is when they are done you can get a close out letter from them if you want one. This letter describes the process used for the search. It give you something in writing to support the claim you did your due diligence for a search. http://web.pbinfo.com/
