I have a client who got a substantial package from them analyzing their plan unrequested. Has anyone seen this before? Is this just marketing?

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting there was anything inappropriate about it. My client was just surprised by the sheer size of it and it's customization to their plan (which appears to have been done based on 5500 data).

I had a couple of clients last year that received their information.  I didn't see the whole package, but I was told it was a lot of information.  They do seem to market heavily to certain companies, and like you said, it appears to be from 5500 information.

It is just boilerplate, produced from the data collected from the on-line 5500 forms.  Makes it look like they did a ton of work for the client (FOR FREE!) but they actually did no work at all.  Just one type of marketing.
