Dave Baker Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 Here's what we looked like in October of 1996, about a year and a half into operation as BenefitsLink -- it's the earliest snapshot recorded by the Wayback Machine (archive.org) -- https://web.archive.org/web/19961030012404/http://www.benefitslink.com:80/ Then-toddler Joey was all in favor of dad's hobby site, back when the world wide web was not much older than he was --https://web.archive.org/web/19970116235252/http://www.benefitslink.com/gif/joey7.gif (Today he's a 25-year-old professional snowboard instructor out west, which he's quite good at, although it's an unusual application of his aeronautical engineering degree from Rennselaer.)
AndyH Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Congratulations and Thank you! Your work has been very important to a lot of people. Dave Baker 1

My father went to Rennselaer but back in the 40s! And he did not become a snowboard instructor... Dave Baker 1 4 out of 3 people struggle with math
Minutiae or not? Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 To the group: I'm retiring this year after 46 years in the business and want to thank you for the knowledge your daily newsletters have imparted to me. I have read your daily newsletters since day 1 and, as part of my mentoring program, encourage my juniors to read it as well. To another 25 years!!! Gary Rothy Dave Baker 1
Dave Baker Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Congratulations, Gary! Wonder if you'd like to say a little about what makes for a good mentoring relationship. You could start a new topic. I've always been fascinated with the way a mentor relationship provides so much value to the enterprise and the mentee. My greatest regret looking back on my career, bar none, is that I didn't seek and find an older, more experienced person to be a mentor.
Belgarath Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I'll second Dave's comment. I was extremely fortunate to have an outstanding mentor, who was generous with his time and expertise above and beyond the call of duty. I doubt that I'd have stayed in this business if it weren't for him. Dave Baker 1
Bill Presson Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Congratulations! Very happy that y'all have lasted and succeeded. Dave Baker 1 William C. Presson, ERPA, QPA, QKA bill.presson@gmail.com C 205.994.4070
