jsample
I have an plan with a 10/1 plan year end date. When I file an extension for the 5500, is the extended filing due by 7/16, or can I count the entire month of October, through 10/31, and ask for an extension to 8/15? Thank you. C. B. Zeller
I hesitate to disagree with Paul since you're usually right, but in this case I think I do. The instructions for the 5500 say this: Quote Plans, DCGs and GIAs. File 2023 returns/reports for plan, DCG and GIA years that began in 2023. All required forms, schedules, statements, and attachments must be filed by the last day of the 7th calendar month after the end of the plan, DCG or GIA year (not to exceed 12 months in length) that began in 2023. If the plan, DCG or GIA year differs from the 2023 calendar year, fill in the fiscal year beginning and ending dates in the space provided. The 5500 due date (and corresponding last date to file a request for extension on Form 5558) is always the last day of the month. Paul I 1 Free advice is worth what you paid for it.
