metsfan026 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Good morning, I have a few clients that don't want to log in and electronically sign the forms themselves. What steps do they need to take to authorize me to sign the forms (with my name) on their behalf? I think I know, I just wanted to be 100% sure. Thank you!
AlbanyConsultant Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 We give them an authorization form that explains that they have options and they have to choose to either do their whole signing dance, or they can authorize us to efile it for them. it discloses that their signature will be posted to the EBSA if we efile. You can Google it - some TPAs have their forms online. Procedure-wise, we send it with the 5500, they sign both and send them back to us, and we file them. I like that it makes it easier for us to track - it's worth the little extra work on our end. And now the important part: Are we taking the NLDS over Philly?

Basically Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 I feel it is easier for me to efile the form using my credentials. Similar to AC's process, the 5500 is sent to the client along with an efile authorization form. It allows me to have my finger on the pulse, to know exactly who hasn't filed yet in real time. I have only 1 client to whom I send a link and that is done way back in April. He is quick to respond and he gets it done. I would be nervous as heck if I was this close to the deadline and relied on the client to get the return filed by 10/15. My 2 cents
