60 YEAR OLD MAN, FORCIBLY RETIRED ON MEDICAL GROUNDS 1955, NOW IS TOLD

I am a 60 year old man forcibly retired on medical grounds, i.e. mental illness in 1955, without the Right of Appeal.

However, I have just been advised by Benefit Agency that I am no longer retired, cured suddenly, as if by a mircale - without having given me any medical examination. No reason is given to me. It would seem that I am not entitled to know the reason why I am no longer retired.

No one, however, will give me a medical certificate, confirmating that I have now been cured.

Consequently, I am without any income and have no means of support whatsoever.

I have contacted my MP, Citizens Advice Bureaux and countless number of solicitors - they all say they cannot help me in any way.

What can I do now?

sorry, I don't know of any program here that fits your situation. usually its the other way - for instance if you want disability, sometimes its required to go through the social security admin or something like that. sounds fishy that you can't get any explanation, any medical exam, etc.

I would add, though, if you were truly sick at one time, and now have been cured, I would thank God.

Now age 60, retired 46 years ago in 1955 at age 14??? Assuming there is a typing error here, and knowing how bumbling beaurocrats are in the US, I doubt we can provide much help. Newspapers and public ombudsmen love situations like this.

Papers like the Mirror could really make a story out of this. Can't you see the headlines?

GOVERNMENT DENIES MIRACLE CURE

GOVERNMENT LOSES MAN TWICE

and so forth. They even pay for these stories.

I am sorry. It was not in 1955, but 1955. Typing error.

I get the impression that you are from America. Are you?

Well, I am sorry about this, I did not realise it was an Americal Board.

No Ombudsman will deal with my case. No one can help in this counry, at least the hundreds of people I have already contacted.

Well, thanks for replying. All the best.

France, your fingers are about as good as mine, you typed 1955 again!

I would say this is primarily an American board. Sorry since very few here would know how to approach the British boards. It is strange that you only got a verbal cure notice, one in writing would probably solve a lot of problems.

It almost sounds like some of our disability schemes (US plans, GB schemes). The disability runs until some retirement age, then normal retirement benefits kick in. Possibly apply for normal retirement (or early retirement) benefits.

I am not trying to insult you by mentioning the use of (dis)reuptable papers. Sometimes that is the only way to go.
