Guidance on State and Local Paid Family Leave Laws, Part 5: Connecticut

Seyfarth Shaw LLP

Dec. 9, 2021
On-Demand
Webinar

Part 5 of the Seyfarth Paid Family Leave Series examines the implementation of the Connecticut Paid Family and Medical Leave Law. As part of this legislation, the state of Connecticut created a paid leave program (CT PFML) and significantly amended the Connecticut Family and Medical Leave law (CT FMLA), which provides job-protected unpaid leave. The changes to the CT FMLA will go into effect on January 1, 2022 and include an expansion of coverage to all employers with 1 or more employees.  At the beginning of this year, the state of Connecticut began collecting employee contributions in preparation for the start of CT PFML benefits, which become available to eligible employees on January 1, 2022.

This program focuses on updates to the CT PFML program and covers the following:

  • Overview of the CT PFML Law and Published Guidance
  • Interaction with the CT FMLA and Other Leave Laws
  • Interaction with Employer Paid Time Off, Leave, and Benefit Policies
  • Private Plan Exemptions
  • Employer Obligations
