Advisor Relationships: Going from Love/Hate to Great

ASPPA [American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries]

Aug. 1, 2024
Recorded Online
Webinar

Speaker:

  • Shannon Edwards, ERPA, CPC, QPA, QKC, QKA, President, TriStar Pension Consulting
  • Chad Johansen, QKA, Partner & Director for Consulting, Plan Design Consultants, Inc
  • Mary Patch, QKA, CPFA, Retirement Plan Adviser, Atlatl Advisers
  • Nevin Adams, Former Chief Content Officer, American Retirement Association

Description: Like most successful relationships, that of an advisor and a TPA is often about aligning expectations with reality—and that reality is that all TPAs (and all advisors) are not identical in terms of their skills, needs and capabilities. Advisors often take on tasks that a high-quality TPA firm might typically perform. Similarly, TPAs might find their expertise relegated to an after-the-fact clean-up simply because they weren’t involved in the initial discussions, perhaps out of a concern that they’d derail those conversations prematurely. Since each client relationship—and each advisor/TPA combination—is unique, how can you find a match for your unique blend of service and services?

Learning Objectives:

  • Share 5 (Bad) assumptions advisors (and sometimes TPAs) make
  • Share 5 (Good) questions to ask potential advisor partners
  • Share 1 (Great) way to help share your value and clarify roles.
