This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of ERISA fiduciary law by using a combination of presentations and case studies. At this year’s program, you will learn about ERISA’s basic principles that apply to investing plan assets.

What You Will Learn

After attending this program, participants will be able to:

  • Explain ERISA basic terminology; discuss the fundamentals of fiduciary duties and describe the basics of prohibited transactions
  • Evaluate the fundamental ERISA considerations that apply to financial institutions and investment advisors
  • Discuss the basic ERISA issues raised when establishing a private fund that will have “benefit plan investors”
  • Discuss the basic ERISA considerations for an ERISA plan fiduciary considering investing in a private fund or other alternative investment
  • Recognize the different ERISA fiduciary duties and responsibilities that apply to defined contribution plans (e.g., 401(k) plans) where the participant is responsible for directing investments
  • Identify ethical considerations for ERISA practitioners
