Whether it’s a termination of employment, change in employment status from full-time to part-time (or vise-a-verse), a change in status affecting welfare benefit plan coverage, or a leave of absence, there are a host of compliance items that employers must know and understand specific to their employee benefit plans. This course will discuss employee benefit plan compliance and strategies in addressing employee change in status events. Among the key topics that Jason will discuss include:

  • Events that may trigger mid-year election change opportunities under a cafeteria plan
  • Health plan coverage issues for various employee status changes/events
  • Retirement plan coverage and distribution considerations
  • Severance plan compliance and strategies

Attendees will walk away from this webinar with a better understanding of the employee benefits issues that need to be addressed in the event of an employee status change under their retirement and welfare benefit plans.

Learning Objectives

  • You will be able to discuss severance agreement/plan considerations under the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, Code Section 409A and COBRA.
  • You will be able to identify employee benefit plan administration and compliance issues when an employee has a termination of employment, goes on a leave of absence, or changes from full-time to part-time status.
  • You will be able to explain the events that may allow a participant to make health/dental/vision/FSA election changes mid-year.
