Ethical Judgment and AI Accountability for Retirement Plan Professionals Today

ASPPA [American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries]

Aug. 17, 2026
2:00 p.m. - 3:40 p.m. ET
Webinar

Most of us believe we would do the right thing when it matters. Research consistently shows a gap between that belief and how professionals actually behave under pressure. This extended webcast takes a deeper look at the behavioral forces that can lead well-intentioned practitioners to make poor ethical decisions in real-world situations.

We will examine concepts such as ethical fading, motivational blindness, and bounded ethicality, and connect them directly to challenges faced in retirement plan administration and TPA practice. Using the ARA Code of Professional Conduct as the foundation, the session walks through realistic scenarios involving client pressure, operational constraints, and ambiguous compliance situations to illustrate how these risks show up in day-to-day work.

The webcast also takes a more detailed look at how AI is reshaping workflows and ethical responsibility. As AI tools become more embedded in plan operations, they introduce new considerations around accuracy, bias, overreliance, documentation, and accountability. We will explore where AI can support efficiency and consistency, and where it can quietly increase risk if outputs are accepted without appropriate professional review.

Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how behavioral risk and emerging technology intersect, along with practical approaches to maintaining sound judgment and meeting professional obligations in an AI-enabled environment.
