Excerpt: Medical patients today are at serious risk of injury from medication errors. Typical errors include dispensing the correct medication in the wrong dosage or frequency, as described above, or dispensing an incorrect medication whose name sounds similar to the correct one. Fortunately, the use of a new technology, called electronic prescribing, has the potential to reduce medication errors substantially and to improve the efficiency of health care.
