Press Release Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland Students Win Retirement Essay Competition |
Issued by TIAA Institute June 26, 2024 |
Congratulations to students at Johns Hopkins – Carey Business School and University of Maryland, Baltimore County, for winning the iOme Challenge, which is designed to raise awareness about financial security in retirement and give young people a voice in shaping retirement policy. The TIAA Institute sponsors the iOme Challenge with the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER). Student teams from across the country participate in the annual challenge, and the winning teams (listed below) were invited to present their ideas at a symposium with policymakers on Capitol Hill. Also present at the symposium were WISER President Cindi Hounsel and Ali Kewar, deputy assistant secretary, U.S. Department of Labor, who gave a keynote address on emergency funds and financial wellness. The TIAA Institute’s Shelly Eweka moderated two panel discussions and Xian Sun attended in place of faculty advisor Phillip Phan.
