In addition to his practice, Steven actively contributes to the legal community through his involvement with the American Bar Association, the American Benefits Council, and the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys. Steven has also served as a director of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Steven received his B.S. and M.A. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
